The Summit
The world today is fractured along ideological, religious, and cultural lines. Deepening gaps in values and a disregard for individuals who look different and think differently have led to a sharp rise in confrontation and conflict among communities and countries. In a world where more than 42 percent of its population is below the age of 25, BYLC believes that it is critical to engage our youth in conversations around collaborative leadership, inclusiveness, and tolerance.
The Youth Leadership Summit 2019 will bring together 500 university students and young professionals, competitively selected from Bangladesh and around the world, along with a constellation of reputed speakers, to facilitate an intergeneration dialogue on pressing issues that affect young people. The theme for this year’s Summit, Strength in Unity: Shaping the Future, is born out of the belief that the values that unite us are stronger than the forces that divide us. The Summit will be a celebration of the commonalities between people from different backgrounds, using that as a vehicle for bridging gaps in society.
The Summit will feature a mix of plenaries and concurrent panels on issues ranging from why leadership matters to the role of ethics in leadership to entrepreneurship. It will also offer delegates the opportunity for networking, building and practicing leadership, and sharing ideas on how youth can shape our collective future.
Previous Summit speakers have included distinguished leaders from private, public, and civil sectors as well as faculty from Harvard, MIT, and Oxford. The keynote speakers for the 2019 Summit will be announced in April 2019.
