About Career Bootcamp

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a globally massive rise in un- and underemployment, as over one in six young people have stopped working since the beginning of the pandemic. Young people aged 15-24 were already facing a challenging transition into the labor market before the COVID-19 crisis and were two to three times more likely than seasoned employees to be un- or underemployed. The condition has further aggravated as the pandemic brought in the demand for a new set of skills that fresh graduates need in addition to traditional education. Focus of employers have shifted to skills on adaptability, resilience, technology, and remote communication to contribute to organizational growth.

Against this backdrop, BYLC is organizing a month-long Career Bootcamp from November 21, 2020 to December 19, 2020, where graduating students and young professionals will be trained on professional development skills by renowned industry experts of the country. Through the bootcamp, we aim to prepare the participants for the 21st century job market and meet the existing skills gap.

Program structure

The Career Bootcamp has been developed on three broad components derived from discussions with employers and industry leaders. These components will enable participants to prepare themselves for the adaptive challenges of a post-COVID workplace and help them to overcome workplace issues with ease. The components are:

Learning and innovation skills

Critical thinking and problem solving, communication and collaboration, creativity, and innovation

Digital literacy skills

Information and communication technologies (ICT) literacy and media literacy

Career and life skills

Adaptability, self-direction and leadership, productivity, accountability, and data-driven decision making

The bootcamp will cover essential topics pertinent for the modern workplace, including communication, management, operations, design-thinking, and business case-solving. Video-based online modules will be supplemented with instructor-led virtual sessions by industry leaders and experts who will provide insights into the skills demand of the job market, as well as equip participants with in-depth knowledge on the respective industry.

The month-long program is conducted in three phases followed by a career fair.

Phase I

Students are required to complete specific learning modules from BYLC’s online platform, BYLCx. Participants will be required to complete these courses every week of the program before joining the virtual classes with instructors who will train them on the relevant skills.

Phase II

The online modules are complemented with virtual instructor-led classes. There are two types of virtual classes; one will be held in small groups taking place in the middle of the week by facilitators and instructors, the other will be held in large groups at the end of the week where participants gain insights and relevant professional development skills from industry experts.

Phase III

Graduates of BYLC Career Bootcamp 2020 will be given the opportunity to join a career fair to look for suitable job opportunities from a diverse group of companies and will be able to avail lifetime career mentoring and placement opportunities by BYLC Office of Professional Development.

At the career fair, bootcamp participants can interact with the employers in Q/A sessions and will get the opportunity to directly send their resume to these companies and get the chance to join them as employees.
