With a youth population of nearly 50 million, it is imperative that national policies and political agendas prioritize youth development over the next few years. This can only happen if youth are effectively informed and included in processes that shape public policy. However, it is widely felt that youth outside of major political parties have little opportunities for democratic participation. In order to amplify the voices of young citizens, BYLC is hosting the Youth Leadership Summit 2018 to empower youth, build their leadership capabilities, and engage them in political processes so that their priorities are heard and reflected in national policies.
The Youth Leadership Summit 2018 (YLS) will bring together 400 young people of diverse backgrounds and professions from all over Bangladesh for three days of leadership training, discussions on social issues, and collaborative activities. The Summit will feature knowledge sharing plenaries on issues that affect youth including public leadership, gender equality, peace and inclusiveness, education, and employment. Participation at the Summit will not just last three days, delegates will be engaged throughout the year to ensure that youth voices are included in government agendas.
Share ideas and learn from distinguished leadership instructors, thought leaders, and policy makers
Engage with others from different backgrounds to co-create a Youth Manifesto reflecting the priorities and recommendations of young people
Co-create a Youth Advisory Council who will ensure that youth voices are represented in government agendas and national policies
Competitively selected through a rigorous application process, the YLS delegates will have the opportunity to lend their voices on youth development in Bangladesh by co-creating a Youth Manifesto. This Youth Manifesto will be disseminated throughout the country through various channels and will be used as an advocacy tool for youth.
To ensure that the recommendations on the Manifesto are truly heard, BYLC will be selecting 10 high performing young leaders from the Youth Leadership Summit 2018 to form a panel and represent the youth of Bangladesh on a national level. The panel will have the opportunity to interact with government officials and industry leaders, and advocate on behalf of the youth population to ensure that action steps are taken.
